About The Author: Robert Armitage Sterndale (1839–1902) was a British naturalist, writer, and statesman who began his career in British India before becoming the governor general of St. Helena. He served in various administrative roles in India, including the finance department, and made significant contributions to natural history literature, particularly on the mammals of India. His work "Seonee, or Camp Life on the Satpura Range" influenced Rudyard Kipling's "The Jungle Book." Sterndale was also an accomplished artist and played a role in saving St. Helena and establishing a fish curing industry. He passed away in Westminster in 1902.
